CargoWise has integrated with New Zealand’s PortConnect port community system, giving freight forwarders access to near-real-time container movement data across participating ports. The integration connects PortConnect’s container-level event data directly with the CargoWise logistics platform. It aims to improve planning between quayside operations and landside container transport. PortConnect is jointly owned by the Port of Auckland and Port of Tauranga. Its network includes Northport, Port of Auckland, Port of Tauranga, Lyttelton Port Company, CentrePort Wellington and Timaru Container Terminal, as well as their inland ports. Container-level visibility While carrier information on incoming cargo is typically provided at vessel level, PortConnect adds 30 types of container events. These include vessel discharge, container release and availability, Customs and Ministry for Primary Industries clearance, truck gate-in and gate-out, and loading onto departing vessels. PortConnect sends the event updates directly to CargoWise, where they update the status of individual containers. As a result, freight forwarders can use the information to plan landside transport more efficiently. They can also schedule truck movements around container availability and storage deadlines, reducing the risk of unnecessary delays and demurrage charges. “Integrating our data into CargoWise brings together vessel and container data enabling our customers to more efficiently manage their landside movements, as part of their wider supply chain,” said David Knowles, Customer Relationship Manager, PortConnect.
