CMA CGM has announced a series of new Peak Season Surcharges (PSS) covering trades from Asia and the east coast of South America. The measures will take effect during October and range from US$200 to US$1,000 per TEU, depending on the trade. Far East to Durban From 8 October, CMA CGM will apply a PSS of US$550 per TEU on shipments from the Far East to Durban, South Africa. The surcharge applies to all cargo and will remain in place until further notice. East Coast South America to the Americas CMA CGM will introduce a US$1,000 per TEU PSS from the east coast of South America from 15 October. The surcharge covers shipments to the west coast of South America, Central America, the Caribbean, Mexico, Guyana, Suriname, the United States and Canada. It applies to all cargo under long-term contracts. For the United States and its territories, as well as countries requiring longer notice periods in Latin America, the measure will take effect on 28 October. Far East to Mauritius Meanwhile, the carrier will introduce a US$400 per TEU surcharge on shipments from the Far East to Port Louis, Mauritius. The PSS will apply to all cargo loaded from 15 October and will remain in effect until further notice. For shipments originating in China, CMA CGM said the surcharge will be subject to filing with the Shanghai Shipping Exchange and/or included in the ocean freight. China to West Africa CMA CGM is also introducing new surcharges from China to several West African markets from 15 October. Shipments from Central and South China to Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Benin, Equatorial Guinea, Ghana and Togo will face a PSS of US$200 per TEU. The carrier will also apply a US$200 per TEU surcharge from China and its Special Administrative Regions to Guinea. Meanwhile, shipments to Liberia, Senegal, Mauritania, Gambia, Sierra Leone, Guinea-Bissau, Cape Verde and São Tomé and Príncipe will face a higher surcharge of US$400 per TEU.
