Maersk has announced new Peak Season Surcharges (PSS) for shipments from Far East Asia to Saudi Arabia, North Europe and the Mediterranean. The carrier has also revised its Emergency Contingency Surcharges (ECS) for exports from Oman and the United Arab Emirates. The new charges will take effect between 1 August and 10 August 2026, depending on the trade. New PSS for Saudi Arabia From 10 August 2026, Maersk will apply a new Peak Season Surcharge on cargo moving from Far East Asia to Saudi Arabia. The surcharge will be US$1,000 per 20ft container and US$2,000 per 40ft and 45ft container. The scope covers shipments from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea and other Far East Asian countries. Europe and Mediterranean surcharge revised Maersk has also revised its PSS for shipments from Far East Asia to North Europe and the Mediterranean. The new surcharge will apply from 3 August 2026 for most Far East Asian origins and from 10 August for cargo originating in South Korea. The carrier will charge US$250 per 20ft container and US$500 per 40ft and 45ft container for North Europe and Mediterranean destinations. For Syria, the surcharge will be €220 per 20ft container and €440 per 40ft and 45ft container. The surcharge applies to all container types, including dry, reefer, tank and flat-rack equipment. Emergency surcharge updated Maersk has also revised its Emergency Contingency Surcharge (ECS) for exports from Salalah and Sohar in Oman, and Fujairah and Khor Fakkan in the UAE. The new ECS will take effect from 1 August 2026 for non-FMC trades. The revised charges apply to shipments bound for North Europe, the Mediterranean, South Africa, the West Coast of South America, the Caribbean, Central America and the East Coast of South America. The surcharge varies by origin, destination and equipment type, with dry container charges reaching up to US$5,300 per 20ft container and US$6,500 per 40ft container on some trade lanes.
